ANTONI GIMBERNAT GRANT   

The ANTONI DE GIMBERNAT FOUNDATION grant is announced in order to acknowledge work into the breakthroughs achieved, both in clinics and in the laboratory, in the application of lasers in Medicine and Surgery.

The importance of laser applications in medicine has taken on a new dimension in the last decade.  In the most relevant medical specialities, laser systems have become the instrument of choice in order to perform efficacious interventions for the treatment of lesions which could not previously be treated satisfactorily.

The ANTONI DE GIMBERNAT FOUNDATION, aware of the work being carried out internationally with laser technology, has decided to award an annual grant in recognition of the work done concerning these breakthroughs.

The winning submission will be awarded a total of 20.000 Euros. 

2007 Grant: The grant was first awarded in November of 2007  coinciding with the International Hands-on Course in Laser Applications in Medicine and Surgery, which is held annually at the Instituto Médico Vilafortuny and is organised by the ANTONI DE GIMBERNAT FOUNDATION.  The winner of the 2007 Grant was Dr. Serge Mordon, INSERM, Lille University Hospital, Lille, France for his paper titled “Laser Assisted Cartilage Reshaping: State of the Art perspectives”. 

2008 Grant: The 2008 edition of the Grant was awarded on 13th of November at the Plenary Sessions Hall of the Cambrils Town Council. The winner of the 2008 Grant was Dr. Dr. Matthias Hild, Department of Ophtalmology, University of Saarland, Germany for his paper titled "Femtosecond laser surgery and real-time imaging of human lens capsule and porcine retina in vitro"
